It was mid-breakfast when Adam McElroy stumbled into the crowded Hall of Snow. There were hardly any seats available, and the amount of noise coming from each table was deafening - especially the Lioano table in particular - by itself, but all of them put together... Well, that made Adam's current thumping ache-of-the-head hurt even more, now didn't it?
He glanced around, vision blurred slightly by the usual snow falling from the ceiling, and saw a handful of people he knew or at least recognized.
There was little Adelle Dario in fifth year, sitting at the end of the Fina table by herself; There was Alexander Aindrea, his old best friend, sitting at the front of the Lioano table; there were his sisters, Scarlet and Roxie, who were actually sitting together on the Intermise table (but Adam suspected that this was only because Mirabelle was sitting in between them, as the sisters kept shooting each other glares...); Several teachers that he had met were also there.
Stepping further into the large hall, he scanned the Lioano table for Charlie, as well as a spare seat to sit in. He missed the death-like glare that his sister, Scarlet, shot him as she looked up and saw his blond head, wondering who he was looking for and if it was who she thought it was. If it was... she didn't know what she might do.

If you happened to be looking at Charlie from far away, or even quite close, you'd be forgiven for thinking she was asleep. Or dead. Yes, most likely dead. After all, who could sleep in a hall with so much noise and rabble going on? She had her head resting on her arms, which were folded on the table. Long blonde hair spilled over the table. A similar blonde sat beside Charlie. Felicia frowned, and jabbed a sliver of pale skin visible through the golden tresses with a fork. Charlie groaned, and reluctantly sat up, looking throughly miserable. She blinked. The light stung her eyes.
"Nnngh...Wha' chu do that for?" She grumbled, frowning.
"I think you should eat something. Or at least have a drink. Of water, of course. I think you've had plenty of everything else."
"Oooh, Felicia, shut up. I feel....like death warmed up..."
"Look like it too."
"Charming."
"Of course."
Charlie let her head fall back onto the table, and Felicia rolled her eyes. Typical. It wasn't an uncommon sight to see Charlie hungover as hell every few days. Though apart from the grumpiness, and general tiredness, you couldn't really tell. She still looked as chic as ever, in a black blouse, white skinny jeans, white beads and sunglasses (the hungover chick's best friend). Munching quite happily on a piece of toast, Felicia watched her friend. Poor girl. What on Earth did she get up to last night?

No wonder Adam hadn't hadn't seen Charlie yet. A flash of blonde from his right made him glance in her direction, though, as she lifted her head briefly. He looked at her, eyebrows raised at her hopelessness.
He didn't feel that bad himself, apart from the headache he had at that moment in time, and the fact that he had felt so dizzy an hour earlier - as he was dragging himself out of bed - that he nearly threw up all over his bedroom carpet. He probably would have, if it hadn't been for the simple truth that he had nothing to puke up.
But, yeah, he was fine.
Adam spotted an empty seat right at the end of the table, covered with spilled cornflakes and orange juice, and reluctantly decided that it would have to do, slowly walking over to it. He waved his wand, which had been hastily shoved into his pocket that morning, and the left-over breakfast disappeared quickly. As he sat down, though, he knocked over the jug of juice that was near the edge. It smashed on the floor, splattering it's contents everywhere.
"Shit!" A curse left his mouth, along with, "Reparo!" The jug was fixed, and juice was cleaned up with another spell.

Charlie scowled into her homemade darkness, before lifting her head to see what stupid oaf had broken something this time. She was moderately surprised to see Adam, repairing the broken jug, and clean up the spilled juice. She raised a hand in greeting, and even managed a smile for him. Felicia snapped round to look at whoever Charlie was waving at, and raised an eyebrow at the girl sitting beside her.
"Oooh, is that the boy? You sure know how to pick them. He's a real looker," Felicia said, with a grin and a giggle.
"Oh my God Felicia, if I have to tell you to shut up once more, I swear...!" She let the threat trail off, and scowled again. Charlie didn't mean her threats towards Felicia, and Felicia knew that. "And his name is Adam, if you must know."
"Adam. Hmm...My boss is called Adam."
"I know. You've told me about a squillion times."
"Oh my God, shut up, I so haven't!"
"So have. You luuuurrrvve him!"
Felicia flushed scarlet, and took the opportunity to stab Charlie in the arm with a fork again.
"Haven't..."

Adam sat up straight, flinging the jug back onto the table and nearly breaking it again. He rolled his eyes at his own clumsiness, and noticed Charlie's head back up again, and the fact that she was looking in his direction. He waved back too, winking at her.
He saw her friend turn her head and look at him, giggling, before she turned around and began to talk again. Adam grinned smugly. She was probably asking about him. Even if she wasn't, he thought she was, so it didn't really matter either way.
He looked at the food available. It didn't look very good; an empty jug of juice, a opened packet of cornflakes and a few limp, burned pieces of toast was all that was at his end of the table. Oh well. He still felt sick anyway. He glanced over at Roxie and Scarlet. Scarlet was saying something to Roxie, her face screwed up in anger and Roxie was shaking her head slightly Then they both turned to look at him. He rolled his eyes.
What was it with gossiping girls?

"SWEET JESUS!" Charlie yelped loudly, rubbing her arm, "Oh, fuck sake Felicia, you've broken the damn skin!. Look, I'm bleeding now, skankbag!"
"Oh, yes, positively gushing. Pussy." Felicia said, rolling her eyes. "I did tell you to shut up..."
Charlie picked up her own fork, and brandished it threateningly at Felicia, "Oh, I fucking swear - "
"So, tell me about this Adam boy," She interrupted smoothly, glancing over her shoulder at the mentioned person. Charlie raised an eyebrow.
"What about him? He's a friend, that's all. He helped me in the storeroom - 'member I told you, with that Miette bitch? Yeah, well, he was cool there, then we were drinking last night, as you can see..."
"I don't believe that for a minute," Felicia said, narrowing her eyes at Charlie, "What's really going on between you? He winked at you, for Christ sake!"
Charlie sighed, and rolled her eyes. Honestly, some people...so suspicious. Nor could they take a hint.
"Nothing's going on! God, Felicia, don't cramp me about it..."
Felicia looked round at Adam again, then back at Charlie with a little sly smirk.
"Oh really now?"

Well, now. If he'd thought that the two Lioano girls had been talking about him before... Adam was almost positive that they were now. Perhaps not Charlie, but her blond haired friend certainly was, from the amount of times she glanced around at him. The third time she turned, he sent a warm smile in her direction. Something else that they could talk about.
He turned his gaze down to the table, jumping slightly as he felt something jab him in the back. He turned to see his two twin sisters, with Mirabelle - who was, for once, silent - behind them. Scarlet spoke first, with a hissed, "What are you playing at?!" This was followed by Roxie's input, "You look awful! Ill, even!"
Adam looked confused, and exaggeratedly innocent. "What are you talking about? And thanks for that shove the other day, Scar, my shoulder still throbs."
Scarlet scowled, and shot back angrily, "Do you know how embarrassing it is when a couple of first year lads come up to you and tell you that they're just sure that they saw my 'mature' big brother out in the hall, heading down the stairs, and not coming back up for several hours?! You were with her, weren't you?" She jabbed a finger in Charlie's direction. Roxie stared over her sister's shoulder in the seventh year girl's direction.
Adam rolled his eyes, and replied in a slightly annoyed tone, "It's none of your business what I do outside of school time, or who I'm with! I can't believe-"
"And making me choose like that; between my brother and his stupid crush and a perfectly nice, upset girl! That wasn't fair, Adam, and you know it! You know you made the wrong decision!" Scarlet interrupted. Adam was tempted to stand up and yell straight back - it wasn't her concern what he did! - but stayed in his sitting position, glaring up at them.

Felicia turned to face Charlie, with an exclamation of, "Oh my god, he just smiled at me!"
"Oh my God!" Said Charlie in an equally annoying chipper voice, "I have the urge to thump you with a pitcher of pumpkin juice, and choke you with a half-eaten pancake!"
Felicia rolled her eyes, and thats when she noticed that Charlie had suddenly become quite distracted by something in Adam's direction. She looked round to see Adam being confronted by three blond girls. They seemed to be addressing him quite harshly. Felicia glanced at Charlie, who was looking really quite annoyed.
"Who - ?"
"Miette and her two new lap dogs - his sisters." She said tightly. She seemed to be chewing her tongue to stop herself from shouting something. Felicia was slightly alarmed.
"Now - Charlie, you stay out of it. Seriously, no trouble today, 'kay?"
Apparently Charlie didn't here. She went to leave her seat, but her friend grabbed her sleeve, and forced her to sit back down.
"Charlie, no. Stay here."

Scarlet turned away, muttering sarcastically underneath her breath to Mirabelle, "I wonder how much Sonata paid him for last night...?" Belle was just about to suppress a laugh, when Adam stood up suddenly, taking a step away from the bench so that he wouldn't trip, and snarled, "Shut the hell-"
He was cut off, however, as Scarlet mistook his step from the bench as a threatening step toward her and, although he had never hit her or Roxie and never would, she lifted a hand and smacked him hard across the face as if defending herself from his non-existent attack. Roxie gasped, Mirabelle's hand shot to her mouth in shock and Scarlet's mouth dropped open as she seemed to recognize her mistake. She said quickly, quietly and slightly desperately, "God, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do that. I thought- I thought-"
Adam slowly moved his head, but didn't look at her. He instead snapped, "I know exactly what you damn thought, and you were wrong!" The fact that she'd assumed that he was going to hurt her was what gave him the most pain. She had always been the favourite sister of his out of the twins, and that she would think that... God, it hurt him so much.
"Adam..." Scarlet lay a hand on his arm. Roxie, Mirabelle and mostly everyone near them who were listening were silent, and watching. "Adam, Adam look at me... Please-" Her brother yanked his arm free with a, "Don't touch me!" He strode toward the door, leaving a guilty and very sorry sister behind.
His headache had positively multiplied in pain.

Both girl's jaws almost hit the table when they saw Scarlet strike Adam, unprovoked. Charlie stood up, and Felicia tugged on her sleeve desperately.
"Charlie, Charl, please, don't get yourself into this! It's all end up in tears!" She said. Charlie looked down on her with the smallest of sneers.
"And they sure as hell won't be mine - let go of me, Felicia!" She snapped. Reluctantly, Felicia let her grasp on Charlie's sleeve go, and immediately Charlie whisked herself away to the end of the table.
Felicia could have banged her head against the table. Repeatedly. Why couldn't she just be a nice, normal girl, like everyone else? Oh no, she had to go get drunk a lot, sleep with as many people as she fancied, and get into a hell of a lot of fights.
Perhaps that's why she liked her so much?
Charlie approached Adam from behind, with a murmured, "You 'kay?" and a venomous glare for each of the girls.
((Ahhhhhballsack.))

Mirabelle, Scarlet and Roxie stayed where they were, near his seat, still looking absolutely gob-smacked. Scarlet's face was reddening, and her eyes stung with hot tears. She couldn't believe she'd just done that; smacked her brother, her lovely big brother, really hard, in front of all these people. Basically the whole school was in there.
All three of them desperately wanted to leave, but they couldn't because Charlie had stopped Adam straight in front of the exit door, and it wasn't smart to get within arm or leg distance of Charlie at that moment in time, even Mirabelle knew that.
Adam turned his head to glance at Charlie, his blue eyes crossing hers as he said gruffly, "No. No, I'm not." His hand gripped he door handle, and he prepared to open the door.

"Adam," She said, putting her hand against the door, to stop him leaving, "You shouldn't run out when you're upset. Go work it out of your system. You let yourself build up steam way to much..."
She had wanted to say something meaningful. She had wanted to say something sweet, maybe even funny to make him smile again. But that was all she could come up with. I mean, come on, the guy had just been battered around the head by his little sister - what could you say to that?
Her green eyes scanned his face, thinking of something to make it better. Unfortunately, she pulled up a blank. Glancing briefly over her shoulder, she positively glared death at Scarlet.

"What the hell do you want me to do? I'm hardy gonna hit her back like YOU would to let of steam, am I?!"
Adam pulled on the handle, not sure if he even wanted it to open or not. He just wanted to get away from all the gawping faces. He hated stuff like this. But, it was true, there really wasn't anything that Charlie could honestly say.
Scarlet's eyes met Charlie's, and she looked away quickly, rather afraid of the anger, annoyance, and hatred in them.
{Lame, gtg!}
