This was where it happened...
Adam swallowed slightly, staring down at the marble bench in one of the furthest corners of The Courtyard. The kiss between him and Aimee. Sure, he had to pretty crazy to come back to this very spot, after everything that had happened, but... somewhere in his mind he had a mad idea that Aimee actually felt something for him.
He had shut out the fact that when she had kissed him, she had been so deeply in love with Alex. He shut out the fact that probably the only reason that she had kissed him was revenge on Alex, that she had poured every drop of pain and hurt into that one cold kiss. And he thing that he tried the hardest to shut out, managing to do it just fine, was the definite fact that there was no possible way on earth that she would ever choose him over Alexander Aindrea.
Yes, he shut it out. All of a sudden, though, a new girl had caught his attention; Charlie Sonata, a pretty, blond, feisty young woman with quite the temper. She was quite the flirter, and the two were getting along quite well the few times that their paths had crossed. He liked her, sure, but... Aimee was still lurking in the back of his mind in quite the unpleasant manner.
Sighing, Adam slowly sat on the bench, running a hand through his hair and looking up at the sky. The weather was changing drastically; it was still warm, yes, but rain showers had been coming quite frequently and, if the Lioano could be perfectly honest, it was getting rather depressing. Take right now, for instance; the sky was an ominous purple color, and Adam could have sworn he felt a drop of rain hit his left hand.
If it was going to rain, then it was good that he was dressed appropriately; a pair of dark blue trousers, a T-shirt and a thin coat. A plastic-type coat, as it were, one that would shelter him from the rain well enough...
{Lame ending, but oh well... Join if you're bored, or what.}

"Oui, mademoiselle." Came the sugary sweet voice of one Gabriella Monroe. "Ah, très bon. Continuer." Was the reply. Gabriella smiled at her teacher and walked past her , head held high.
She smiled as she left the room, closing the door and leaning on it, a dreamy smile on her face. A few first years passed and made jokes, but Gabriella ignored them, standing up and making her way to the stairs.
Her choice of clothing today wasn't really 'appropriate', but she didn't care. Black denim shorts which only reached to mid-thigh were 'in fashion' at the moment, and so were black and white stripy t-shirts with the word 'DANGER' on the front. Well, they were to her. Gabby just liked that kind of clothing. Her shoes were black flats, simple. Gabby liked what she looked like, and no-one, not even a teacher, could make her change.
She wasn't wearing much make-up, perhaps just a little foundation and mascara, but Gabby didn't wear it much.
Gabby reacher the stairs, and she started to slowly walk down them and head outside into The Courtyard. It was slightly cold, but she was bored and she had just seen someone.
The girl slowly approached him and she let a weak smile paint her lips. "Hi. I'm Gabriella." She told him. Even if he didn't reply, it was still company.

Adam was about as out of fashion as Gabriella was in. Well, that is, unless you count tacky, thin, black raincoats as being 'in fashion' nowadays. Which would, of course, be pretty unlikely. But, still, Adam didn't care. He wasn't really bothered how he looked. He was alone, and the only things he cared about were his own thoughts.
But that didn't last for long, though, as a shadow was suddenly cast over the Lioano. He glanced upwards, and his eyes met with those of an attractive young woman. He seemed to find his voice, after a couple of seconds of awkward silence in which he used to trying and figure out what the girl had said, and shook his head slightly to scatter any thoughts or impatient, nasty comments he could come out with right there and then if he were feeling particularly sadistic. Which he wasn't. He never was.
Adam coughed slightly into one hand, sitting up straight from where he had been slumped on the bench, head in his hands. "Uh, hi..." he said, voice slightly scratchy and quieter than it should have come out. "Adam..." It was hardly the friendliest of greetings, but at least he had spoken at all. Plus, he had even managed the smallest of faint smiles in return to her own.

Gabby gave Adam a quick once-over. He looked... okay. Well, he would be dry if it started raining, and she wouldn't. So her choice of clothing was unwise because the clouds in the sky weren't looking very 'white and fluffy'.
Gabriella met his gaze as Adam looked up, and she let her teeth be shown in what was quite a warm smile. He was okay looking, his eyes were quite beautiful, as well as his figure. But the boys facial features were a little hard.
"Well, nice to meet you, Adam." Gabriella gave him a smile which probably looked -very- fake, but it was, so it didn't matter. To be honest, Gabby didn't care whether she was polite or not. She didn't know the guy, and first impressions didn't mean everything, so therefore she could be as rude as she wanted.
"So, what's wrong?" It was obvious something wasn't right. A guy sitting alone wearing clothes the type of clothes which the school allowed other than school uniform... Something was up.

At Gabby's second, warmer smile, Adam sat straighter still, mood lightened a considerable amount. At least the girl wasn't angry, yelling or slapping him in the face, as most females were these days. That was a big plus, as he hadn't wanted to receive any bruises or headaches today. He still hadn't spoken to his sister, Scarlet, since that day in the hall... He was sure that she had almost left a bruise on his face; which probably wasn't true.
"Pleasure." It was another short, sharp sentence. It seemed that the usually talkative boy wasn't going out of his way to be overly friendly today, but as mentioned before: it was pretty lucky that he was saying anything at all, considering his confused, hurt thoughts from the minute before. He'd be fine tomorrow, you'd see; Gabriella had clearly just picked the wrong day to meet him.
But then she asked it. That awful, awful question that always made people stop for several minutes of awkward silence before spouting some random half-truth that barely skimmed the top of how they were really feeling, the event in question that they were so bothered about left unmentioned.
"So what's wrong?" Where could he start? He couldn't tell her what had happened the past months, with Alex and Aimee, Charlie and her drinks, and Mirabelle and her dead hand. She'd think he was mad... Maybe he was, but he wouldn't want this pretty little thing to think it. So he replied in the lamest, most vague way he could think of.
"Nothing." Yeah, right; like she was going to believe that...
{SONO. xDD; YOU ROCK, DAMNIT.}

"Not feeling very outgoing today, hm?" She smiled again, scratching her lower leg with the back of her shoe. The boy seemed a little... depressed. No, that wasn't the right word. Just gotten out of a really good relationship? No... He seemed more.. confused.
Gabby sighed, muttering something in Italian under her breath and sitting down on the bench next to the boy, but making sure there was at least a few inches gap between them. Boys usually got the wrong idea if you sat right up close to them. It was just their perverted nature.
"Look, I'm not exactly going to go around telling people. Telling someone your problems normally helps." She told him, putting a sympathetic smile on her face.

"Hardly," Adam replied. He couldn't help but smile at her, though, whether it be her blunt speech or her cheerful, colorful appearance. It wasn't a huge grin or anything, mind you; but it was definitely a smile, nonetheless. She was certainly right in saying that he was confused. Although, she probably would have been right just sticking with depressed, as he was that, too, on a small level.
He watched Gabriella in interest as she sighed, words he couldn't understand leaving her lips, and sit down beside him. It was clear that he wasn't going to shake off this insistent girl with the simple word 'nothing', so he might as well talk to her a little.
Adam sighed heavily himself, then turned slightly to face her. He spoke eventually, after a few moments of quiet. "Ugh, it's... complicated." He honestly didn't know where to start, but began with the most obvious. "I had a fight with this friend. We're not speaking." Wow, that was surely the understatement of the century indeed.

Gabby didn't answer this, just smiled, shivering a little. She hadn't noticed before, but it sure was cold. Once again, Gabby offered Adam a smile, closing her eyes for a second. As well as being cold, she was tired. It was only just past dusk, the sky was a beautiful deep purple and the two were sitting on a bench facing nothing but trees and the sky.
Fight with a friend. That was really annoying sometimes. "Well, just talk to your friend. Wait, that doesn't make sense - you're not on speaking terms. Just don't wait for things to sort themselves out - they won't. You need to give it a little time, then apologise, even if you aren't in the wrong. Friendships only work if each friend feels a little superior over the other. It's stupid, but true." That was the best advice she could give, and it usually worked, anyway.

Adam sighed again, shaking his head slightly exasperatedly and running a hand through his blond hair. "No, look... I am in the wrong. I should apologize. But, Jesus, I swear... if you'd ever seen Alex angry - or felt him give you a punch - you'd stay away from him, too." He knew that she probably wouldn't know who Alexander was, but he figured she'd get that he was the friend Adam had fallen out with.
"I don't dare go near him. Not until he's calmed down, anyway; I don't want him to mess up my face even more..." He sighed quietly, and went on to explain a little more. He knew she'd probably dislike him immensely when he told her what he had done to make Alex so angry, but he was sure she wouldn't leave until he did, so that couldn't really be helped.
"Argh... Okay, here's the thing. I... kissed his girlfriend." He backtracked slightly. "Well... no. She kissed me. We were talking because Alex had done this stupid thing and she was upset about it, and..." He paused to catch his breath between the words that had suddenly began to flow from his mouth. "I was comforting her, and we kissed. Alexander... well, Alex saw. It's just this great, big, painful mess..."
Adam had a sense of uneasiness; he shouldn't be telling all this to a girl that he had just met, but... she had asked.

"Right. Your face looks fine now. Don't think he damaged it much." Gabby offered, smiling lightly. She crossed a leg over the other looking around to see of any of her friends were out. No. They were probably in the lovely warm common room. Just where she wanted to be.
He had kissed his girlfriend? No wonder Alex was pissed - nobody likes to be cheated on. But then again, it was quite unfair that Adam was punched as she was the one who kissed him, but she could see Alex's point.
"That's not the best thing to do.. But I wouldn't worry. He'll calm down... eventually. That happened to my friend once - he got his face punched right in, but the other guy forgave him a few weeks later. Just apologise when you next see him, and if he looks angry.. run." Gabby laughed a little, a smile painting her lips. She hadn't been this happy in ages - it felt good.

"Thanks, but that's only because I did the smart thing - for once - and ducked as best I could. It probably just made him angrier." Adam smiled also, cheered up a little by her obvious effort to make him feel a bit better; or whatever that 'advice-giving' thing was called.
He snorted. "Yeah. He'll calm down in about three years time. Until then... I guess I'll have to make do with running for my life." He paused, to shake his head, and also to explain why Alexander probably wouldn't forgive him for a long while. "It's happened before. The whole girlfriend thing... But that's a long story."

She sighed lightly. Poor boy. That stuff was always hard to get out of. It happened to everybody - it had even happened to her, Intermise Prefect. But it would all end well, I mean, it had to. All fairy tale endings were happy, and if you thought about it, living in the world of magic sort-of was like a fairy-tale.
"Yes, it would make him angry, but at least you didn't get hit." She smiled, leaning back onthe bench, bringing her legs onto it, hugging them. "I'm not going anywhere." That's when the clouds finally broke.

Well, Adam's life didn't sound like one that would be written in a colorful story book and read aloud to children like other fairy tales. In those stories, the prince always ended up marrying his princess, then riding off with her to his huge palace in the distance. He had a feeling that his story wouldn't end with 'happily ever after'.
"Didn't get hit... I suppose you could call that a bonus." At that, he even let out a little laugh; his personality seemed to have changed vast amounts since she first stumbled across him. See, he was turning back into Adam already. Oh joy, he was almost back to normal.
"Not going anywhere? You sure about that?" He glanced up at the sky, then back at Gabriella. "You look cold."
