I found the pieces in my hand
They were always there
It just took some time for me to understand
You gave me words I just can't say
So if nothing else
I'll just hold on while you drift away
Cause everything you wanted me to hide
Is everything that makes me feel alive
The cities grow
The rivers flow
Where you are, I'll never know
But I'm still here
If you were right and I was wrong
Why are you the one who's gone
And I'm still here
Still here
The lights go out, the bridges burn
Once you're gone, you can't return
But I'm still here
Remember how you used to say I'd be the one to runaway
But I'm still here

Gnawing on her lower lip, she tried to calm her feelings as she left the Hospital Wing. While there she had tried so hard, not to cry, not to gasp, not to show any horrible reaction to the state Kai was in. He had been sleeping, but at the same time, afraid that he would awaken to see her crying, she had gotten up and left. Soon walking, just wasn't enough, clutching her books to her chest she ran. Ashlei didn't know where she was going, what direction she was heading, but she did know that she was about to break, and the floods would come. Strawberry blond ringlets flew behind her, as her hazel eyes looked around desperately. Short powder blue skirt ruffling about at her thighs, her hat had fallen off a while back and she hadn't stopped to pick it up. Finally she stopped with a dry sob, for the tears hadn't yet made their journey from her eyes. She covered her mouth to muffle the sounds, as she finally gave in to the emotional urge, bangs coming down to rest near the tip of her nose, having grown them out.
Ash couldn't bare think of it, yet it came back to haunt her thoughts every few seconds. First it was her muggle schooled brother, he hadn't made it, he had died. Now Kai...Kai was lying there in the bed, his face so ashen, and his body banged up. The blue black rings around his eyes, she screamed into her hand. She had ducked into the courtyard, and was hiding behind a statue, between the cool stone and prickly leaves of the bush. By now tears were streaming down her soft ivory cheks, face becoming red tinged, she brought her knees up to her chest, ignoring the fact that her black knickers were showing, and wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her head on her forearms. She cried, shoulders shaking, and heaving with each gust of a new awoken sob. Everytime she thought she would stop, she would start again.
Books lay on the other side of the statue where she had dropped them, she closed her eyes. Long eyelashes were stuck together with tears, and her face glistened with the salty wetness. Mascara had already began to run down her cheeks, and stain her white dress shirt sleeves. Feeling so distraught, forlorn and most of all alone, her crying quieted to just silent shakings and shuddering. Tears falling silently from her large eyes, staring at nothing in particular as she struggled to gather herself again. Composure was just not something the young woman was good at, and it sure wasn't happening. At least this time, there was no alcohol within reach or anywhere near. God forbid she end up totally wasted like when she had heard her one brother had died. Now all she could do, was suffer in silence and without the numbing effects of alcohol.

Maybe tonight
It's gonna be alright
I will get better
Maybe today
It's gonna be okay
I will remember
I held the pieces of my soul
I was shattered and I wanted you to come and make me whole
When I saw you yesterday
But you didn't notice
And you just walked away
Cause everything you wanted me to hide
Is everything that makes me feel alive
They were always there
It just took some time for me to understand
You gave me words I just can't say
