"They should."
"How long have you been teaching?" Braeden thought before replying, "Well... I haven't, because it's the holidays, but I've been at the school for a few days." It was a vague answer, but the best he had come up with. "Have you been here for a long while?"

She smiled and said,"I just got here this morning. I just finished getting everything in order just befor I played the piano..." She sipped from her wine once more. "Do you have any hobbies such as piano?"

"Really? You seemed to have settled in well for arriving today..." He had some of his wine.
"I can't play an instrument myself. I can't concentrate on one thing - such as playing an instrument - for such a long time. I get bored." Braeden shrugged. "But you must have played for a long time."

She smiled and said,"Thanks." She was quiet for a moment, taking a small sip of the wine. "You must do something in your spare time, then? Reading, perhaps? Or something else?"

"Oh, I read. And I write letters and things. But I haven't been able to do any things like that for a few weeks, moving in and out of my home, fixing up my office and classroom. Have you had any trouble? I'll help you move any unpacked boxes you need or whatever."
Wow. He was a new person. He could sulk, he could ignore you, but maybe... Maybe what he needed was someone to persevere. Someone who actually finds talking to him interesting. Someone who wouldn't just give up and ignore him back. Maybe that would make him talk to you.

She smiled and said,"Yeah, I just got the piano in here and set it up before I put up my sign-up sheet." She smiled again at his offer and said,"Thanks, but I think I have it all. I didn't bring too much... Mostly just my books and piano. A few pieces of furniture... That was all I really needed. Besides, I couldn't take everything from my brother and his wife." She sipped from her wine again before asking,"So, where are you from?"

"I bought quite a bit... perhaps that's where I made a mistake. I took me a while to get it all in..." Braeden had a bit of his wine, too, before continuing. "I'm from England." Another vague answer. "Where are you from?"

She smiled and said,"Yes. I considered bringing more, but I didn't really need any more." She took another sip of her wine before saying."London, England for me. I grew up with my brother most of my life..." She shrugged and said,"Do you have any siblings?"

Braeden laughed. "Yeah, like siblings would ever have happened... I was enough of a mistake for both my parents. I grew up by myself, basically."

She frowned slightly. "I know the feeling. Both of my parents were obsessed with their careers, so it was just me and my brother. They didn't give us the time of day, so we just stuck together. They did when I was 14, so my brother took care of me then, even though I was pretty much taking care of myself anyway." She shrugged and said,"He got married, I stayed until I found a job, then I moved out. Here I am." She sipped from her wine again. "What did you do after you left home?"

Braeden laughed again, sarcastically. "It wasn't their jobs that my parents were obsessed with; it was themselves, and their own problems. They couldn't have cared less about me, about what I did, just themselves.
"My dad cleared off early, and my darling mother abandoned me when she learned about my magical skills; and killed herself."
Then, at her last question, he froze. What the hell should he say? 'Oh, I was a Death Eater?' No way!
"I traveled around a bit, then got my job here. Never earned too much money."

She frowned and said,"I'm terribly sorry. You had it worse than me." She couldn't imagine just being abandoned or having her parents be obsessed with themselves.
"Ah. Travel. I never got to travel..." She shrugged and said,"What kind of books do you like to read?"

Braeden shrugged. "Yeah, well, life hands you all sorts of crap, and you just gotta deal with it."
"I like to read..." He thought for a second. "I like books about the thing I'm teaching, and , of course, learning a new spell or potion is always an added bonus, and I've read horror, not so many romances, but those make-believe 'horrors' are the worst. I can't stand reading things that there is no chance in hell of happening in real life. They irritate me."
{o.O Rubbish.}
