Alexys was in a sulk. It was quite easy to see by the way he practically stomped into the library, eyes down, hands shoved most ungraciously into the pockets of he white jeans. He even met the librarian's trademark scowl with a piercing one of his own. Randomly, he snatched a book off the closest shelf, so she wouldn't bother him, and flung himself down on a chair near the fire with a heaved sigh.
"Hi Alexys!"
Alexys looked up sharply, frowning, too see what un-naturally chirpy person had greeted him. A biting reply died on his lips when he saw who it was. Lucan Regent sat in a chair near by, legs tucked under him, clad in a white shirt, blue jeans and a pleasant smile. He wore no shoes, and he sat in an open, and relaxed manner, an air of sensitivity around him. Lexi nodded briefly in reply. To be mean to Reject was like kicking a puppy.
"You seem upset..." he said, leaning a little closer to Lexi, "Are you okay?"
"Mm, yeah, I'm fine," he answered, nodding again. Lucan frowned slightly, wriggled from his chair, and sat down in the one closest to his friend.
"Serphius?" Lucan guessed, and by the brief dark look that passed over the other boy's eyes, he knew he had hit the spot, "Have you had a falling out? You're usually never seen appart..."
"Well, you could say that..."
"What happened? I won't tell anyone."
"He's been assigned as a tutor for this stupid girl in Potions. He never even signed up for it, but you know what he's like. He can't say no to a teacher!" Lexi's cheeks were a little red as he told the Fina boy what was happening, "He told me not to come! He said I couldn't go! He said I should stop being such a freak, and try making some other friends...How can he say that to me? I'm his best friend! It's...it's...not cool."
Whilst he'd been talking, Lucan had been listening quietly, and patiently. There was a moments silence between them, before he quite suddenly announced:
"You should ask him to be your boy."
"What!? I couldn't!"
"Why ever not?" Lucan asked with a frown, "You love him, and he positively adores you. Can't you see? You may as well do it, and you'd both be happy!"
Alexys was staring intently at the floor, chewing over what had been said to him. It all made sense, but he knew that he more than likely couldn't. He and Serphius were close in every way, but to actually be properly committed was like crossing a line they didn't want to cross.
"I couldn't." he said firmly.
"Why? Are you scared he'll say no?"
"As a matter of fact, I am, a little bit. But it's not just that."
Again, there was quiet. Alexys sat back in his chair, crossing his legs. Lucan looked around boredly. He wanted them to at least try it. He thought they made such a good couple, and they may as well have made it official. Lexi, on the other hand, didn't know what to think. He'd thought about it before, but he'd never really confronted it. Slowly, he shook his head, and stopped. His grip on the book tightened momentarily. But what if...?
What if...?
"Oh, look." said Reject cheerfully, "It's finally stopped raining."
