Cove is one of those people who loves to experiment, especially with his hair. He cuts it himself and even does his own color and highlights, whatever might be needed at the time. Though his haircolor hardly stays the same from month to month, the style of the cut hardly changes. It is typically no longer than his shoulders, almost the same length all over. His bands are always swept to one side or the other, generally his right side. He doesn't usually change the cut, aside from letting it grow out occasionally.

His eyes are something to marvel at. They are a stunning shade of blue, bright and full of emotion. The color only varies slightly, though whether it is his mood or his surroundings has yet to be determined. Those gorgeous blue eyes are framed by long, thick eyelashes, the kind that fan out on his cheeks when he closes his eyes, and slightly arched eyebrows. A small nose lies between them, a bit wider at the tip than anywhere else.

Slender is one way to describe Cove. He has never been overly muscular, nor will he ever be most likely. He is a little toned, his stomach flat rather than having a six pack. His fair skin is rarely marred by freckles, which is surprising considering his previous home in Florida. He isn't perfect by any means, but that doesn't mean he isn't attractive. His style is pretty laid-back. T-shirts, jeans, and hoodies are three of his favorite things, and he wears them often. He sometimes throws on a studded belt or a polo, but he likes to be comfortable so it's not so frequent.
p i e r c i n g s / t a t t o o s ;;
Over the years, the decisions were made to mark his body in some ways. Though he never went for a tattoo, he did go for piercings. The first were the gauges in his ears, 1/2" to be exact. After a while, he also went for a tongue ring. The last step was the belly button ring, which some might find odd, but he finds pride in showing it off.
i speak so eloquentlyCove is a pretty easy-going guy. He loves to make people feel comfortable around him, and making people laugh and smile gives him a sense of accomplishment. He is always quicker with jokes and laughter than with seriousness or anger, and he finds it easy to cut up and play around with his friends. Though rough sports are hardly his thing, he doesn’t mind playing them every once in a while if his friends ask him to. He can get along easily with all types of people. He tries not to judge anyone, and whatever he thinks, he usually keeps to himself. He is all about second chances. He thinks it is only fair. People make mistakes, and as long as they learn from them, they shouldn’t be punished for the rest of their lives for it.
He is a great listener, and if anyone needs advice, he will give it to them straight up. He tries to be fair in any situation and look at both sides before choosing one, and he does a good job of not jumping to conclusions. He is easily found comforting his friends, listening to them talk about what’s been bothering them and doing everything in his power to help, by giving advice or just listening. When he becomes friends with someone, he is entirely loyal, unless they betray him first, in which case his trust is more difficult to regain.
When it comes to his family and friends, he is quick to defend them. He does not tolerate when people hurt those he cares for, which is perhaps one of the only times he ever gets visibly angry. He finds it nearly impossible to sit with someone and share his feelings. He can listen to other people’s problems, but when it comes to his own he refuses to ‘burden’ people with them. Sadly, he is not the best at dealing with them either, and by not talking about them, it just takes longer for them to be solved.
Though he is energetic and active, it does not mean he is hyper, easily distracted, or out of control. In fact, he is typically calm. He just has plenty of energy to make it through a day and a night, if needed. His fun-loving, outgoing nature was something he was born with. He never was particularly shy, even as a kid. He is typically a rather ‘bubbly’ person. He hardly gets down, especially in public, and he is rather talented at making awkward situations more comfortable and depressing times more cheerful. He enjoys being himself, and has never really struggled with an identity crisis.

He's afraid to hurt people's feelings, so when he gets angry, frustrated, or even hurt, he bottles it up. Eventually the pressure builds because he kept quiet about it and he loses it. When this happens, he tends to retreat from everyone for a while and hide away in his room listening to loud music for a while.

It isn't always a bad thing, but when he flirts with pretty much any pretty little thing in the club, it gets to be a problem. He loves attention, and flirting is one of the ways he gets that attention.

Being nice is usually a good thing, but not when it leads to getting hurt. Cove loves to make friends and meet new people, but not all of those people are as nice as he is, and he ends up hurt quite often from those people, but he never tells them. He keeps it hidden and bottles it up, but sometimes it's just too much.

Just because he trusts someone doesn't mean he will share his past with them. He isn't afraid of their reactions, but he doesn't want their sympathy or their pity. Aside from that, the pain still comes in waves, and he finds it nearly impossible to talk about without getting far too emotional.

Although he claims to not want a relationship for a while, the boy is a hopeless romantic. He wants to fall in love again and find happiness with someone who makes him happy, but he's so afraid of getting hurt that he hesitates. He says no strings attached, but really he wants someone to show him that they won't hurt him like his last ex did.

A storm had struck the city of New York around 5 pm that day, and it had continued its relentless bashing ever since without a moment's rest. Many people remained indoors hoping the power wouldn't go out, some stood outside in the rain because they loved it, and still others were stuck in a hospital room pacing around. The latter currently applied to a Mr. Jonathan David Hayden, who was waiting for his wife to go into labor. Her water had broke earlier that morning, and he'd been listening to the thunder and the sound of the rain pelting the windows for the last few hours. He kept one ear out for his wife if she needed anything, so when he heard her shout, he whipped around and hurried to her side. "What is it, Ray? What's wrong?" His voice was breathy, worry and utter devotion written on his face. She squeezed his hand, and he felt the bones crack and pop, grinding together, but he didn't say anything. She was in pain.
The door opened as the nurse came in to check everything. She looked over the read-outs before looking over at the two of them. Rachel Geneva Hayden looked at her husband and forced out her next words between heavy, labored breaths. "This... baby... is... coming..." He blinked a few times, looking up at the nurse for confirmation, but she was gone. It wasn't long before a lot of things happened all at once. People came into the room at a hurry, and the doctor they had chosen in the beginning came walking into the room, pulling on gloves. "Are we ready to deliver this baby?" He felt like he was going to faint. He wasn't sure if he was ready to be a father. He would do his best, but was anyone ever truly ready to be responsible for the life and care of another human being? He doubted so.
As the clock read 11:11, he heard the first cry of his son. His eyes grew huge and he stared in disbelief as they cleaned him and handed him to Ray, who immediately seemed so much more at peace as compared to moments before. They stared at their baby boy, tears flowing from both of them. "Look what we did, Jon... Look what we did..." After she held him, she handed him over, and Jon cradled the small newborn against his chest, staring down at him in amazement. "My son... Oh, Ray..." He was so overcome, but as they stared at each other, the doctor cleared his throat. "Have you decided on a name?" Slowly they nodded, and Jon looked down at his son before speaking up. "He will be called Cove Zachary Hayden."

A head of rich, dark brown hair bounced up and down in the kitchen, arms flailing to try and keep the balance. The man laughed and picked the little boy up, laughing as he cackled gleefuly. Bright blue eyes stared back at him before his son voiced his opinion. "Daddy, huuuurrrrrry! Or we're gonna be late!" He smiled and set him back down. "Calm down, Co, it's okay. I'm almost finished with our lunches, okay? Okay?" He had to repeat okay because Cove had started bouncing up and down again. God, that kid had so much energy. Jonathan was rummaging in the refrigerator for the jelly as he heard Cove shout. "Mommy!" He smiled, backing out of the refrigerator with blackberry jelly in one hand and the other to wrap around his wife, who was smiling brightly. "I thought I heard you two up down here." He laughed and kissed her before finishing the sandwich. "Okay, Co, we're finished. Ready to go?" He winced at the volume and pitch of the next words. "Yeah!! Let's go, daddy!" He grabbed their lunches, kissed his wife, and headed out the door with his bundle of joy in tow.
The drive didn't last very long, but he would never let his son walk to school, not in this city. There were more deaths every day than he could count anymore. It was sad but necessary. As they pulled up and he parked the car, he unbuckled and watched as Cove struggled to unbuckle the seatbelt due to his excitement. He hadn't stopped bouncing since he'd woken up, and it had been a hassle to try and get him to eat his breakfast. He smiled as he finally got the button to release him and grinned up at his dad. Jon grinned back before opening the door and getting out, closing it behind him and helping Cove get out of the car. He locked it and armed it before taking his hand and walking him into the building. Once inside, Cove stared with wide eyes at his surroundings. "Daddy, it's so biiig." He grinned and agreed, steering him down the hall on the right. About three doors down he opened one and stepped inside. Once inside a woman greeted him and Cove. "Hi, I'm Ms. Peterson. Who might you be?" Cove smiled up at her and said proudly, "I'm Cove Zachary Hayden, and this is my daddy, Jonathan David Hayden. Are you my kindergarten teacher?" She smiled and nodded, speaking to Jon briefly before leading Cove into the room. He watched him play with the other kids for a minute before leaving.

"Dad, do I really have to go to a private school? I won't know anyone here. I'll be 'the new kid' or some other ridiculous name that they come up with." Bright blue eyes that had been staring out the window until now were suddenly focused on the man driving the car. Dark brown hair that had grown longer over the years was brushed to the side to allow him to see properly. Jon smiled and said, "Co, relax. It really isn't as bad as you think." Cove made a face and countered, "But the kids will be snobby and preppy; I don't do snobby and preppy." Jonathan laughed and said, "Trust me, it will be fine. And believe it or not, 21 years ago I was in your situation." Cove stared at him. "YOU went to Preston Academy?!" His father looked at him. "Don't sound so surprised. Yeah, I went there. I wasn't a prep, and I never wanted to go either, but I loved it there. It'll be great; you'll see." As they pulled up, Cove paused. "You're not gonna walk me in are you?" Jonathan pretended to be offended. "And what if I wanted to walk you in?" Cove grinned and said, "You could. If ya wanted." Jon laughed and gave him a hug, kissing the top of his head. "Goodbye, son."
Cove smiled and unbuckled, opening the door and hopping out. He closed it and waved at his dad before turning around and disappearing into the building. Jonathan watched him go, waiting until he was completely inside before driving away. Once inside, Cove looked around. The school was huge, and it was so fancy. He looked down at his uniform, looking back up to see that everyone was wearing the same thing. Then a boy walked up to him. "Hi! I'm Joseph! What's your name?" He smiled, feeling much more comfortable already. "I'm Cove. So, where do we go?" Joseph smiled and said, "Follow me! I think you're going to love it here. It's really fun, and the food tastes pretty good, too! I've been going here since I was 7." Cove's eyebrows raised. "Really? Wow..." He smiled and Joseph tugged on his arm, pulling him along at a hurry. "Come on! Or we'll be late!" Cove laughed and followed him, thinking this might not be so bad.

"Dad, look!" Jonathan hurried over to see what his son was pointing at, and he laughed when he got there. "You want a skateboard?" Cove made a face and said, "Yeah! It looks so cool! Joseph has one, Dad, and it's so much fun!" His father laughed, looking at his son with a smile on his face. His dark brown hair wasn't much longer than his mouth at the moment. He had recently learned how to cut his own hair, which was fine by him. Those bright blue eyes pleaded with him to buy it. "Oh, alright. We'll get it. But one broken bone and I'm putting it away, okay?" Cove rolled his eyes and grabbed the skateboard, skipping up to the front counter. Jonathan followed and paid for it, making sure to grab a helmet as well. They walked out of the store smiling and laughing, and he spotted the ice cream cart. "You up for some ice cream, Co?" His eyes lit up. "Yeah!" He laughed and walked over to the cart, ordering two scoops of vanilla on cones. He paid and brought them over, handing one to Cove who immediately started to eat his.
They started walking down the sidewalk, enjoying the cool breeze. "Where do you want to go next, Co?" His son continued to eat the ice cream for a minute before he asked hopefully, "Can we go to the mall? Please?" He laughed and said, "Alright, we can go to the mall. It's your birthday, afterall." Cove grinned and skipped ahead a little before turning around and smiling at his dad. As Jonathan smiled back, he felt the pain in his chest erupt forcefully. The sound he heard was nearly blocked out by his son's scream as he fell to the ground. He blinked rapidly, staring up at his son's face, watching almost in slow motion as the ice cream cone fell to the sidewalk and splattered. He felt himself slipping away as he looked up into the most precious thing to him in the entire world. "Co... I love you... Remember that..." He saw the tears, and he lifted his hand to wipe them away, finding that motion hard to accomplish. "No, Daddy! Don't die! Please!" Jonathan Hayden smiled at him sadly. "I'll always be with you, Co... Always... Goodbye, son..."
It all happened so fast, and as Cove watched his father's eyes close and his head fall back, he screamed. "NO! Daddy, please don't leave me! Please, Daddy!" He felt the sobs racking his body as the tears came pouring down, and the peal of thunder was heard in the distance. He barely felt the raindrops as they began to fall. "Don't leave me alone, Daddy... Please, come back... Come back! I can't... I can't do this without you... I need you, Dad..." He buried his head in his father's shirt, not caring if there was blood on him right now. None of that mattered, because his father was dead. He had been shot on the day of his fourteenth birthday, and he was gone. He wasn't sure how long he stayed there crying and pleading with his dad to come back, but at some point someone must have taken him home, because he woke up in his own bed, tears streaming down his face. His father was dead, his best friend in the entire world; he was gone.

"Thank you for coming..." Cove hardly recognized the dead voice as his own as it broke the silence, hoarse and broken from misuse. Blue eyes that had once held such life were dead, pain and hurt having taken the place of warmth and life. His hair was a wreck, shorter now but hardly tame in any way. He just didn't care anymore. He looked at his mother, seeing the way her hands shook and her lips trembled. She had been strong for the most part, only crying when the funeral service began. He'd felt his heart break for a second time then, as he watched his father being lowered into the ground as his mother cried her heart out. Tears had hardly stopped flowing down his own cheeks ever since that fateful day. There had been no party this year, no sense of celebration after the death of his father. There had been no need. As the last person filed out, he turned to his mother and put his arm around her. She bit her lip, and he could tell she was fighting the urge to break down. They walked outside and stepped into the car that was waiting to take them back home; his mother was in no condition to be driving.
On the drive home he stared out the window, watching the rain falling down so peacefully on the windows. His father had loved the rain, and he always said he hoped it was raining when he died. It had rained, and it was still raining now. He felt the now-familiar wrenching pain in his gut, as though someone was tearing a hole through his chest. He struggled to hold himself together, feeling colder than ever before as he crossed his arms over his chest, longing for his room now more than ever. Once they got home his mother went into her room and shut the door, and he swore he heard her sob the moment it was closed. He walked numbly to his own room and closed the door behind him, turning to look at his surroundings. The tears came again, silently streaming down his cheeks as he walked to the balcony and opened the door. He walked outside, standing in the rain and letting it wash over him, hiding his tears. He laid down on the floor of the balcony and curled up, staring blankly ahead as the rain soaked through his clothes.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride..." Cove watched as his mother kissed her new husband, Caleb Scott Dagonet. His eyes then shifted to the boy beside him, his new step-brother. He now officially had a step-father, something he hadn't been very pleased with in the beginning. Now, he just hoped it made his mom happy. Other than that, it didn't really matter what anyone else thought. It had been three years of pain for her, so why shouldn't she try to be happy again? He knew it was what his father would have wanted, but no one could replace his dad. No one. He just hoped this man knew that. Alexandre James Dagonet looked at Cove and raised his eyebrows. "Well, looks like we're brothers now." Cove looked at him and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, looks like." Now for the wedding reception. As long as he didn't have to dance, it was fine by him. His girlfriend wasn't here, so he really didn't want to dance with anyone else. Besides, this was his mother's celebration, so maybe he would be invisible and forgotten by everyone else.
Later that night, he watched as Alex brought the last of his things in. He had his own room, thankfully, but it was still weird for him to think of having other people inhabit his father's house. Alex smiled at him and tried to get all of his stuff in one trip, shouting when he fell down and dropped everything. Cove laughed, watching as he sat up and glared at him. "Care to help?" Cove grinned and teased, "All you had to do was ask." Alex rolled his eyes and took Cove's hand, thanking him after he helped him up. They split the stuff and headed down the hall to the room beside Cove's. He helped him unpack and get settled in. "So, our parents are off to their honeymoon now... What do you want to do?" Cove thought for a moment before smiling. "I say we go to the party Joseph is throwing tonight." Alex's face lit up. "Really? Yes! I was hoping you would say that." Cove rolled his eyes and picked up his cellphone, dialing Jo's number. "Hey! Got room for two more? Alright! Be there in a few!"

"Alex, wake up! Alex! ALEX!" A pair of brown eyes slowly slid open, obviously not happy about being woke up. Messy black hair fell in front of his face as he sat up, staring at Cove in confusion. "Cove, what-" Cove sighed, his blue eyes intense as he looked down at his step-brother. His dark brown hair swung forward to cover half of his face as he threw a shirt and a pair of jeans at the boy. "No time, Alex! Get up, now! Mom's water broke!" Alex shot out of bed and grabbed the jeans, pulling them on and throwing on the shirt. "Where's my belt? Where's my belt?" Cove giggled and tossed him the studded belt, receiving a glare before he put it on and looked at the clock. "Cove! It's 3 in the morning! Did her water have to break NOW?" Cove snorted and shook his head as Alex smiled, grabbing his socks and throwing them on. He then began digging around, throwing stuff here and there, before pausing as Cove dangled his shoes in front of his face. "Looking for these?" He stuck his tongue out at him before sitting down and putting them on, getting up and stumbling for the door. "Okay, I'm ready."
At the hospital, the two step-brothers sat in the waiting room. Alex looked at the clock on the wall and groaned. "We've been here for 16 hours, Cove. 16 hours!" Cove just smiled and nodded. "Yeah, but the nurse said she was close. They already got the doctor into the room, so..." It was then that a nurse came back and smiled at them. "Would you like to come back and see your baby sister?" They smiled at each other and nodded, getting out of their chairs and following her back to the room. Once inside, they looked at their parents by the bed, smiling into the eyes of their new sister. They hurried over as Rachel held up the baby girl. "Meet your new sister, boys. Hayley Lorelai Dagonet." They smiled as they looked at her. Alex chuckled and said, "All that waiting was definitely worth it, even if I did only get two hours of sleep." They all laughed as she looked around at them all.

Cove zipped up the last of his suitcases, looking around his emptier room a little sadly. He'd lived here all his life, but it was time to take charge of his own future. He and Alex had graduated a couple of weeks before, and they had found a nice house to rent down in Florida. Alex was going to go to college at the local university there and Cove was going to try and find a good job, get started on his photography and such. They'd made the plans, paid the first payment, and were heading down there now in Cove's car. Alex was going to come and get his when they came back up for Thanksgiving. It wasn't a bad start, and they were looking forward to it. But Cove couldn't help but wish that his father were here to see him off. He knew that he wouldn't get rid of his car as long as he lived. His father had bought it for him, and they'd spent ages fixing it up. He loved it, and it was one of the things that kept him in his life. Too many changes at once was something he couldn't deal with, so this was one change he wasn't willing to make.
He sighed and pulled his suitcase into the hallway, letting the servant take it down to the car. He stepped into Alex's room only to put his hand on his forehead. "Alex!" His step-brother looked up innocently as he tried to stuff all of his belongings into his suitcases. "I told you it won't fit in my car! We're only taking half of our stuff, and we'll get the rest on Thanksgiving." Alex pouted and said, "But I need all this stuff! I started thinking, and there isn't a single thing I could leave behind." Cove rolled his eyes and groaned. "Oh, boy. Alex, we're coming back. In November. Just leave it, okay? Leave it. It will still be here, I promise." He sighed and glared at Cove. "Fine. Just because I like my clothes..." Cove made a noise and walked out, closely followed by Alex as he looked back into his room longingly. "Come on." They walked to the front door where their parents waited with their baby sister Hayley. They smiled and said their goodbyes before getting into the car. Alex was in a bit of a better mood as Cove turned on the radio. "Ready?" Alex looked at him and smiled. "Yeah... Let's do this!"

"Ali, I know what I saw!" Cove stared at his girlfriend in disbelief. His blue eyes showed how hurt he was, black hair reaching just past his shoulders swinging as he gestured at the bedroom they had shared for the past two years. "You were sleeping with him, Ali! Don't try and lie to me; I know very well what sex looks like, and that was it!" Ali stood there, arms crossed as tears poured down her face. She threw herself at Cove, her hands on his arms as she stared into his eyes. "Cove, I swear, it didn't mean anything!" He stared at her and said, "And that's supposed to make it better? It doesn't! Ali, I love you, but I'm not going to stay in a relationship where I can't trust my girlfriend! That's not how it works..." He carefully removed her hands and walked away. She followed him and begged, "Please, Cove, don't do this. Don't throw away our love!" He went into the bathroom and closed the door behind him, leaning back against the door and closing his eyes. How had this happened? "Please, Cove! Please don't do this!" He felt the tear roll down his cheek. "I didn't do this, Ali... You did." Then there was silence, and he sat down on the floor, his knees against his chest as he stared at the wall.
When Alex knocked on the door a few hours later, Cove opened it. His step-brother put his arms around him and held him. "I'm so sorry, Cove..." He shook his head and whispered, "I can't stay here, Alex. I'm sorry." Alex was silent for a moment and said, "Come with me." Cove blinked and pulled away. "What?" Alex looked him in the eyes and said, "Come with me. I'm heading west, transferring to a college in L.A. to finish out my degree. Come with me." Cove sat in silence for a while before he took a deep breath. "Okay." Alex smiled and helped him up as they left the bathroom. Cove wiped the tears from his cheeks and walked into the kitchen. "When are we leaving?" When he didn't get an answer he turned around and looked at Alex, raising his eyebrows. "Tomorrow." He nodded and smiled. "Okay." They smiled and sat down in the living room to watch some TV. "I'm not doing your laundry, though." Alex sighed. "Oh, come on, Cove! Please!"

"Cove! Happy birthday, bro!" He smiled at Alex as he stepped into the bar and walked up to join him. "Thanks." Alex grinned and turned to the bartender. He held up two fingers and pointed at his empty glass. Cove laughed and sat down beside him, taking his jacket off and draping it over the back of the seat. "Soooo... How's Seattle treating you?" He smiled and said, "It's pretty great, actually. There's plenty of jobs for a photographer here; I got a job as one of the newspaper photographers. I'm also going for an interview tomorrow for a restaurant. How's L.A. treating you, Alex?" He grinned and said, "It's better than I could have imagined. I'm almost finished with school; just another year, and I'm done." Cove thanked the bartender as the drinks appeared, taking a sip of his. "Uh-huh. And what exactly are you going to do with that degree of yours, huh?" Alex blinked and looked at him. "I have no idea." They looked each other and laughed.
Cove looked at him thoughtfully. "So, do you have a job, or are you still begging for quarters in the park?" Alex rolled his eyes and said, "Come on! That was one time! I really wanted that McFlurry, okay?" They laughed and he continued more seriously. "Yeah, I'm working at a coffee shop right now. It's pretty neat, actually. My favorite drink combined with a bunch of intelligent people who's brains I can pick at... I love it." Cove smiled and nodded. "Sounds like your type, Al. Sounds completely like your type." He smiled and agreed. "Besides, I have a girlfriend now." Cove paused just before taking another swig of his drink and looked at him. "And when the hell did this happen, hmm?" Alex grinned and said, "About... two days ago. I've been trying to get her to go out with me for 4 months now, and she finally caved." Cove smiled and said, "Good for you, Alex." He grinned and lifted his glass, touching it to Cove's. "A toast to us, brother. May we each find happiness." Cove smiled. "I'll drink to that..."
