If anyone walked into the grounds on that particular Saturday afternoon they would have thought that the five people (three girls, two boys) under the tree were a friendship group or a group for a project in class. You probably wouldn’t expect them all to be brothers and sisters. But they were, and very annoyed ones at that.
“YOU KNEW?” The youngest one there, Melissa, shouted at the triples, Tori, Summer and Lucas.
“We didn’t want to upset you…” Lucas, the oldest, replied, wincing at his sister’s yells.
“UPSET ME? YOU THINK THAT YOU TELLING ME WOULD BE MORE UPSETING THEN THIS LETTER?” Melissa waved the letter about in front of her brother’s face.
The letter looked rather normal, with the exception that it was a little scrunched up. The handwriting was neat and well presented, as if making up for the words that were written.
The second youngest there, Rocco, leant again the tree and sighed softly.
“Drew proposed and Mum said yes, there is nothing we can do unless we want to ruin mum’s chance of happiness, and quite possibly Tansy’s too. She adores Drew.”
Tansy was the youngest of the siblings. She was nine and saw more of Drew (her mum’s boyfriend/now fiancé) then she did her real father.
“As much as I hate to admit it, Rocco’s right.” Summer added, frowning slightly.
“I guess, and Drew does make mum happy, but…” Tori mumbled, trailing off.
“He can’t replace dad, can he?” Lucas replied.
“No..” Melissa spoke up, pushing away her anger.
There was silence for a couple of minutes before both Melissa and Rocco excused themselves, saying they were hungry and leaving the triplets with the letter, and to think things over.
Tori picked up the letter and read it for about the tenth time since they had received it that morning.
Dear Lucas, Tori, Summer, Rocco and Melissa.
I have some wonderful news! Drew proposed to be last night, and I said yes. I hoped you wouldn’t mind, as we have been dating for just under three years, and he has lived with us for just over one year. I really hope you respect my decision, and see why I did it.
Much love,
Mum.
Tori sighed, dropping the letter on the floor. She watched Lucas walk back into the castle, closely followed by her sister, not hearing their excuse.
Drew better know what he was doing or he’d have her, and quite possibly all her other sibling (with the exception of Tansy) to deal with.
