It was them again. The huge, swooping shadows. They flew toward her, numbers and letters flowing randomly from their wide, gaping, Dementor-like mouths. Adeline desperately tried to work out what they were saying by the numbers and letters, but he jumbled up mess just made her scream and sob in frustration.
Then came to the worst part. The part that made her shiver when she was thinking about it in the day.
The shadows began to bleed, crimson blood flowing from their mouths and eyes. Then they began to speak, swirling around her and splattering her with blood, whispering things in her ears that she could never understand...
At this point in the dream, as always, Headmistress Adeline Darcy awoke with a start, her lightly-colored eyes flicking around the room desperately. Now a few tears leaked out of them, as she felt Darien's hands on her waist and panicked, pulling at them, who it was not registering in her flustered, upset mind.
She calmed slightly as the hands refused to move, and followed them to the owner's face. Her eyes searched Darien's, before she recognized him. Her body went still, and fell against him again, calmed. "I'm sorry..."
It had just been a dream. One she knew so well.

Darien had caught the tears and felt her tugging at his hands, which only made him pull her even closer. When she said she was sorry, his eyebrows had drawn together with worry. "What's wrong, Adeline? Was it a bad dream?" His voice was full of concern, and he resisted the urge to hold her even tighter. She had scared the crap out of him when she was panicking...

Adeline nodded at his words, just making a small, "Mmhm" sound in agreement, feeling slightly sick and not trusting herself enough to open her mouth. She snuggled closer herself, sniffing and wrapping her arms around Darien. She had been alone for so long, and even though she hated showing this weakness so, his warmth, his... just, him was such a comfort to her.
She just hated that dream; waking up, crying and shaking like a small child. It was awful.

He held her close, kissing her forehead gently and whispering,"It's okay... It's just a dream..." His hands ran gently up and down her back, trying to comfort her. "It was just a dream... You're here now... Nothing can hurt you... I won't let it." He kissed her forehead again, resting his head against hers. She had really scared him, and his heart was just now beginning to slow down.

Adeline swallowed a couple of times, before whispering, "Yes... I just have it so often... that same dream..." She shuddered. "I know you won't let anything hurt me... I know." She managed a tiny smile as he kissed her forehead, enjoying their little connections.

He kissed her nose gently, smiling a little. "Good." He held her for a minute in silence before saying softly,"Because I don't know what I would do if something ever happened to you..." He hoped he would never have to find out...

Adeline smiled again, enjoying Darien's little kisses. She looked up as he spoke, listening to the sweet words that almost bought tears to her eyes once more. She moved one of her hands from where it had been wrapped around him, and gently brushed it against his cheek, staring up and into his eyes. She kissed him on the lips softly, her own eyes now fluttering closed.

He smiled at her, then felt her lips on his, and he kissed her gently back. His eyes had slid closed at this, and now he simply held her. He pulled away after a moment, keeping his forehead against hers.
