Cal had grabbed a book from his bookshelf and come to the courtyard. He wanted some peace and quiet, and he decided that was not going to happen in the Lioano common room or the Hall of Snow. So he had went into the hall, grabbed some toast, and left as quick as he had come. He could now be found with his 6'3" form folded as he sat on a bench, munching on toast and reading a book. Niko, his black panther, was laying beside him, sunning himself and purring like mad.
He finished off the first piece of toast, wiping his hand on his dark blue jeans before he turned the page. Today he was reading about Quidditch, which was the first time he had read about it in a long time. Of course, he didn't just read about it. He played it, and he played it pretty well, too. He always played seeker, but whether that would be true for this year or not was debatable. He'd have to wait and see what happened, seeing as this was a new school.
It was a little warm, and he tugged at the neck of his shirt, unbuttoning a few buttons one-handed as he held the book with the other. His eyes moved from one side of the page to the other, and soon his shirt was unbuttoned halfway, revealing a lot of tanned chest. Of course, he didn't part it, it just sort of did that on its own, but it still showed off the muscles pretty well. He didn't notice or care, and instead kept reading. His white shirt contrasted greatly with the large jungle cat sleeping at his feet, but it looked very good on him. He munched on the next piece of toast. There were two pieces left.

Mirabelle was strolling through the courtyard for very similar a reason to Caliban; she wanted - needed, even - some deserved silence. She had previously been up at the library, searching the shelves until she found a book of some interest. It was at the back of the library, at the end of a dust-covered shelf that she found what she was looking for.
The large letters on the spine of the certain book had first caught her attention: Beauty and the Beast. Belle had gently pulled the book from the shelf, blowing dust from he cover. A colorful picture of a waterfall caught her attention, with a castle on a rock in the background. There was a stained glass window in the top-most turret of the castle, decorated with a single red rose.
Mirabelle had then proceeded to take the book to the Librarian to get it stamped so that she could take it away and read it, and had found out through a whispered conversation with her that the book was actually a Muggle story, one that was rather famous.
When Belle reached the Courtyard, she opened the book and began to read it, simply letting her feet take her wherever they wished. She did get quite a scratch to the arm, though, when her 'graceful' feet walked her straight into a small hedge. The hard branches and leaves didn't break the skin, and she was awfully glad that they hadn't ripped the thin, drifting material of her dress. The dress was pale blue, and came to about her knee, the sleeves short and barely covering her shoulders, and matched the sky blue wedges that she had on her feet.
As she turned a corner, carefully dodging a tree, Belle noticed a movement in the corner of her eye. She looked up from her book, turning her head slightly to the left, and saw a guy of about her age, more or less, sitting alone on a bench, reading a book of his own.
Perfectly normal, right?
Yeah, right. Except for the fact that saying that the boy was 'alone' was technically a mistake, as a deep purring sound made her notice a large, black figure at his feet. A panther. Mirabelle let out a gasp at the sight of the creature, and dropped her open book to the ground. She stared in complete shock for a second, before it registered in her brain that the guy didn't seem to be bothered about his companion.
It was his pet.
She flushed a little in embarrassment as she realized how stupid she must look, just standing there brightly, in her blue dress, and staring. Standing up a little straighter, she bent down and picked up her copy of Beauty and the Beast, and said, "Sorry to disturb you." In a slightly quiet voice.

Cal looked up at the sound of a gasp and a book falling to the ground. He had a piece of toast halfway to his mouth, and it froze there as he looked up to find a girl of about his age looking at him and Niko. For a brief moment he wondered why she was so shocked, then it registered, and he looked down at the panther, smiling slightly. He scratched behind his ears gently, and the cat shifted slightly before falling into an even deeper sleep.
He looked up as the girl spoke, the book laying open on his leg. The cover was facing up, and his page was marked easily this way. He smiled at her and said,"It's okay. I was just eating breakfast... The dining hall was far too loud, and I wasn't in the mood for it..." He set the toast down on the napkin with the last piece and sat up a little straighter. "I don't believe we've met... I'm Caliban Leandros, and this is Niko." He gestured to the sleeping panther. "You are?"

Mirabelle watched him pet the animal, shaking her head in a slightly dazed fashion, before focusing on what Caliban was saying. "Breakfast?" She didn't have breakfast, herself. She seemed to constantly feel sick when she first woke, and the mere thought of food almost made her retch. "I know what you mean. I avoid the Hall of Snow whenever I can; the last time I went was because I was forced by friends, I suppose."
"I'm Mirabelle Miette. It's a pleasure to meet you, Caliban, and... uh... Niko." Belle shot a nervous glance at the panther. She liked animals; but she was more used to seeing tabby cats and puppies, rather than panthers. Sh couldn't ever remember seeing one in real life.

He smiled and said,"The pleasure's all mine..." He picked up a piece of toast, munching on it briefly before placing it back on the napkin. He looked back up at her. "Don't worry. He won't bite..." He smiled, looking at the large cat fleetingly. It was true. He wouldn't bite. He may seem like he was sleeping, but he was aware of everything. If he had seen Mirabelle as a threat, he would have already switched into defensive mode or something. Then he would be between her and Cal in a heartbeat.
Which, it somewhat surprised Cal. Usually the panther was very wary around everyone, and he was always so suspicious. He wouldn't let them near him, unless he was used to them or it was Cal's older brother. He smiled slightly at the memories of the three of them together. It was a great time, but all great things came to an end. Sadly, he wouldn't see Nik for the rest of the school year. He just hoped he would be able to be there this year at the end of the school year when he returned home briefly. He looked back up at Belle. "Please. You can sit down. He's pretty comfortable, and he seems to like you, so you're safe..." He smiled, and it was pretty obvious he was telling the truth. Niko opened one eye lazily, looked up at Belle, and closed it again, shifting slightly to find a more comfortable position.

Mirabelle smiled back, pleased to find someone who didn't yell and swear at her the first chance they got. "He won't? Well, that's... reassuring, I guess." She shrugged and smiled again, stepping forward, slowly, and sliding onto the very edge of the bench. "Thanks."
She glanced at Niko, murmuring as he glanced up at her through one eye, "He's... cute." It was lame, but the cat was nice to look at. Belle had always thought that cats were one of the most beautiful animals.
{Lame. I know. xD}

He smiled and said,"Don't worry. He won't hurt you. If he hadn't liked you, he would already have been between you and me baring his teeth or something... He's pretty protective of me." He gave the cat another look, watching as his ear flicked lazily back. He knew they were talking about him.
He looked back at Belle when she said he was cute, catching Niko stretching slightly out of the corner of his eye. Oh, yes, he was certainly enjoying that compliment. He mentally rolled his eyes. That cat enjoyed attention far too much. "That he is... And he'd be the first to admit it." He smiled slightly, looking back at her after glancing to the cat. "That is, if he could actually speak..."

"I suppose that the fact that an animal cares so much about you can prove to be quite a good thing..." Mirabelle laughed at the last part Caliban said. "Yes, he certainly looks pleased."
{SO sorry. I had writers block in a huge amount. xD -dies-}

He grinned and said,"Yeah, I suppose it can..." He chuckled at her reply, saying,"Oh yes. He loves to be complimented and fawned over..." He munched on his piece of toast again, offering her the last piece. Might as well, seeing as he wasn't going to finish it any time soon. "So, Mirabelle, what house are you in?" They'd started a conversation, so they might as well continue it, right?

Mirabelle's gaze fluttered down to the offered toast, but she shook her head and said, "No thank you, but it's kind of you to offer." She smiled. She was grateful, but not particularly hungry at that moment in time. "Oh, I'm in Intermise, of course, what else?" Belle laughed. "You? I don't recall seeing you around very often... but you do look familiar..."

He smiled and said,"It's no problem..." He tossed the piece onto the ground a ways away from them, watching as some birds came to taste the food he had offered them. He watched them for a moment, looking back to Mirabelle when she spoke. He smiled and said,"You wouldn't know me... I only just arrived a few days ago..." He tossed the last piece in the opposite direction, letting the birds have it, too. "I'm in Lioano..." He smiled slightly. It was a little odd, but he didn't particularly mind it.

Belle watched as he tossed away the snack, puzzled for a moment before seeing the birds attack it. "Lioano?" This seemed to surprise her, and she shook her head, glancing down, before saying, "I didn't mean to sound shocked. I just didn't see you as being placed in that house, for some reason." She shrugged.

He smiled and said,"It's okay." He watched the birds eating for a minute before saying,"What house did you picture me in?" He was curious. He was happy with the way things turned out, of course. He was with his best friend, Adam, and that was worth anything. But he wanted to know what other people thought of him. Not that it would make much of a difference, but it was good to know things like that.
